Ebola Eriksson

is a nice name. At least that is what Atle is thinking. The good thing about a name like that is that nobody will forget you when you introduce yourself…

Paragliding Khao Sadao - hawk in early morning. Video

In the early morning on the way down to landing I passed a hawk roosting on a branch. If you look closely you can see it in the down right corner. If this does not work try this link https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=785034094891751&set=vb.100001555022915&type=2&theater

Strong wind paragliding at Khao Sadao

I took off when the wind calmed down from more than 10 meters a second. At least that was what I believed. Out there the wind came from the west. I started to think about a top landing very soon. Right outside takeoff I met headwind which made me go backwards with 10 kilometers. When you are in the middle of the weight my Gradient Nevada is certified for max speed 53 kilometers pressing full speedbar. This means the theoretical air speed was 63 kilometers an hour. That is 17,5 meters a second or 34 knots.

According to http://www.windfinder.com/wind/windspeed.htm this is wind characterized as Gale. Luckily it was only a windgust, and I managed to topland. In retrospect I should have landed down where the wind was not strong.

Paragliding Thailand

It seems that the wind has turned to the north in Isan. This means that flying from Khao Sadao is probably finished except for short spells of southerly winds. Khao Phrik is an alternative, but I guess nobody has cut grass and bushes there since Bengt and I did more than a year ago.

There is a new flying site not to far from Nong Khai close to the border of Laos. We will have a try going there from October 20 if the wind direction is OK (NE-NW). There will be a meeting there from October 17 to October 20 as far as I know. More info about the takeoff here http://no.flightlog.org/fl.html?l=2&a=21&country_id=209
